117 Refinement

Guys,

1st, let me state that this bike rips. Minimum speeds I'm at on the freeway is 80 mph, and I'm at 3,200 rpm in 6th gear, so I'm just getting into the power band and it rips to 120 mph like right now in high gear without downshifting. I want to refine the engine some more, and I have some questions for the engine builders.

I know the torque dip is due to the Thunderheader, and I was going to ask RC play around with the tabs, timing, and fuel to minimize that.

I see the torque line getting ragged after 6,000 rpm and was wondering if the valve train is having a hard time controlling the valve? Would replacing the adjustable pushrods with one-piece custom pushrods help along with roller rockers? Maybe better springs?

I love the power band of the 259e cam, and if there is a gear driven cam that has the same torque curve (or even more), but holds on to the torque longer without additional duration? Would more lift accomplish this?

I've mostly spend my life with big blocks, and anytime I saw the line getting ragged, the valve control was being lost. When we modified the engine and got the valve back under control, more high rpm power would be gained with no lower rpm torque losses.

I want to get as much torque under the curve as possible across the whole rpm range and pull cleanly to a 6500 rpm redline. I believe with some refinement, I can get improvements over this dyno curve.

The compression is set at 10.8, and the crank has been balanced, trued, and welded. Timken conversion has been done to the cases. S&S lifters. Stock 110 heads from 2017 Low Rider S fully ported.

Thanks for any insights,

Dave

What are "worked" heads? Bathtub or 110? Nice chart but do you think is happening between 3000-4000? Cams, heads or exhaust or maybe just a better tune?

djl, thanks for asking
CVO 110" heads 2.12 intakes ported & flowed by www.fastlaneheadworks.co.uk , as over the pond
think the pipe dictates it, as done a 96" softail to 110 bolt -on using 103 worked heads & same pipe, chart very similar shape using T-man 625 cams
ok maybe the tune could always be better, not exactly swamped over here with HD tuners/ PV.

Subscribing.... I have dreams of building a 117" for my Softail Standard.
