Default Lifters Brand vs stock HD?

I'm swapping out my 03 SE Road King 103 stock cam plate for a SE hydraulic cam plate & will be posting a link to the video in the near future. The motor is 16 years old so I'm changing out the lifters also among other things.
Q: stock lifters in motor are 18538-99c stock lifters. They've lasted this long & none are collapsed so they're pretty good at $125 or so. Q2: I want to swap them out but for what? The needle bearings in the rollers are what I'm wanting to make sure are the larger SE type for more oil & are more heavy duty. Fueling 4000 ($135) are great from what I've heard and are 1/2 the price of SE lifters #1857-13 ($250). Tons of other manufacturers lifters out there (V&H, S&S etc). So, If there's an HD tech (or someone who has actually gone through their own selection process) out there that would like to comment on the Whats what, I would really appreciate it. Me = Fixed income, don't want to waste $$. Thanks much! Bob

YIKES! She's about to BLOW!

If you are limited in funds, there’s no need to spend money for the SE cam plate. Just replace the worn shoes with Cyco shoes.
Hard to beat S&S standard lifters as replacements. Good idea to change inner cam bearings to the full compliment type while you’re in there.
That should cover you for many miles!

Good suggestions all! I already had the SE cam plate & most parts including torrington (SE) inner cam bearings for my wide glide 88 that I sold 10 years back (same part # on cam plate) before I could install the new plate. If I didn't already have it, I'd take your suggestion. My OEM cams are good so I'll just scotch brite them but I do want new lifters. THANKS for your post & advise.

s&s standards 135 bucks far better than Harley lifters Harley lifters cost about the same price as most of the builders in here say set to .140 after preload depending on push rods you use 24 threads per inch or 32 threads per inch.

i have always been partial to Jim's lifters and never had an issue, but hey are pricey. I've been using the S&S lifters at the shop lately and find them to be very good for most builds.

I use lifters from WFOLarry, he's a member here. He has Johnson lifters in all price ranges, anything he has is better than anything HD can sell you.

I'll more than likely go with the S&S lifters although Larry's w/pin oiling look PRETTY GOOD! When I set the S&S adjustable rods set that have 32 tpi. I like to start at slight touch then count until bottom out & back it off roughly half the nut flats. I do it on the first intake & exhaust and then set the 2nd jug to duplicate. S&S lifters (33-5350) are looking like the winner so far because of the higher oil flow (80cc). I found them for 135 - 10% & FS at Denis Kirk. Probably will use the stock push rods since I'm not changing the cam. THANKS to all for the posts!

Good to know, how long have they been installed? Price is AWESOME! I didn't see any info on oil volume or any other tech info. Chevy lifters flow 5cc min & S&S flow 80cc min. Thanks for the tip!
