All,
I am looking for input on your mileage when you changed your spring loaded cam chain tensioners. I have a 2003 RK with 20K miles and a 2005 Deluxe with 10K miles.
Thanks for the help!
It seems like the plastic that tensioner shoes are made from vary from batch to batch. Some tensioners might last many thousands of miles & some are gone after only a few thousand miles. mmesa005 is exactly right, inspection is the only real way to know. Get good at pulling the exhaust & cam cover to inspect or do as I am doing, putting in a hydraulic cam plate. I am in the process of making a youtube video on my journey installing the new cam plate so check back in a month or so. 2 cents please... Bob
Most mechanics told me to change them at 30 k, which is what I did. It raised my oil pressure 12 psi too. If you want to be on the safe side check the 20k bike.
I built my motor with 25k on it. Switched over to feuling cam plate with hydraulic tensioners. I got lucky as my stock tensioners were on the way out. A few small chunks were missing. FYI the tensioner behind the plate was in worse shape than the front
I changed mine @ 25K last year. The old shoe wear was minimal for the mileage but now I have the peace of mind. It also gave me the opportunity to throw the cams in it
