Default External VS Internal Venting Pros & Cons

I've thought of the pros and cons of this and was wondering what the experts opinions are on external vs internal venting of your air cleaner breather by-pass systems.

It seems that when your motor is internally vented the pistons get fairly gummed up.
It makes one wonder if the pistons getting gummed up is really any big deal at all and is over rated by those who are in favor of the external venting.

It would seem that there should be some way to clean your pistons w/out disasembling your motor if it's really that big of a deal that some think it is.

I've heard of guys that take a teaspoon of water and through the spark plug hole and then put their spark plug back in and fire up the bike and it's said that this cleans them..

Anyway wondering what the experts or those of you who have knowledge of this issue is.

Thanks in advance.

Fair question..... I had my 103 internally vented. After I built the 124, I externally vented. I don't like the idea of water, seafoam, or any other product being used to clean the pistons. I would rather avoid it, by having the bike tuned, externally venting and avoiding the build-up. I can say that the throttle body is much cleaner than it used to be. I do not see any down side.

It would seem that it would be a logical thing to do to vent externally.
I do not much care for the necklace look of the hanging down part of the filter from the vent tube on many of the external set ups.
Do you have a pic of your set up?

External, I’m not an expert or push the subject hard, but why put that back into an engine? I run mine into a catch can

yes, not the prettiest but it doesn't bother me

Ive thought of doing a braided line, but honestly it would accent the presence of it even more.

We all know If you don't vent how much crap gets into the combustion chamber. Never heard of a teaspoon of water in the plug hole (don't think that'll do much) but rather a small squeeze bottle to stream in a little water at a higher idle (as to not stall) or do the same with Marvel Mystery Oil till it almost stalls then shut it down and let it sit (1 hr) so the MMO works the crap loose then start it up and ride it to clear it out.

Or vent to atmosphere (which all the GREENIES hate) and keep your motor clean.... I use 2 separate braided lines and bring them down behind the rear of the motor..

In the old days, cars had draft tubes, overboard crankcase breathing.
For some reason, a PCV valve worked on car engines, in fact, it works better!
However, it does not seem to work on the HD configuration.
Perhaps because of the staggered firing order or a 100 other reasons.
So overboard works better.
I am clueless why.
