I bought a NOS Cam, for EVO and noticed there are a "C" marked at one of the lifters. The seller said it was a EVO cam for a police bike 84-93 CA. I do not know about that, but I cant find any information about the effect on either the one with 0.416 lift or the 0.423 police version! Do any of you Americans know some more about this H-D made camshaft?

 

If your looking for a performance cam, that one ain't gonna do it.. California EPA cam.... Better off finding an 88-91 NOS harley cam...

 

I know about these trimming camshafts, but the "green camshaft" from California appeal to the Norwegian politics about global heatning, and there are also some boarders between heavey motorbikes and those under 35kw. So there we are with my question about this camshaft, in a EVO, would a person with permission up to 35kw could drive this bikes from California?

 

If you live in (Trøndelag county) Norway it would be helpful to include that information along with or instead of 'Frosta', which won't mean anything to most of us in here, I suspect. I assume the 35kW you refer to is a power limit placed on young or inexperienced Norwegian riders? Your bike was made around 30 years ago, long before those sorts of legislation were introduced. A stock Evo produces significantly more power than that and I doubt if anyone has ever attempted to reduce an Evo's performance to that low a level. I also doubt if that cam you have is going to be of any use, especially as it is a Californian cam - that is where the World's first exhaust emissions were applied!

I got my licence in -83, so i do not need a slappier bike for myself, but there are some yongsters (in Norway) who could drive more powerful motorcycles if they are prepered to 35 kw and when they are going for the licence for the big bikes they just undo the prepering. But even the sportster, are to big for this class. I was wondering about the California models, but couldnt find any information about this camshaft, soo......

 

Harley doesn't publish much in the way of performance data for their bikes, normally only torque. A bone stock Evo is going to be giving something in the range of 60s to mid-70s HP IMHO, way above 35kW/47HP. I don't imagine a Californian cam is going to help, but don't have any data on them. In any event, if you attempt to reduce power to meet that limit you will need some means of verifying the output, I suspect. For modern bikes, dealers can convert to low power output and back to normal again, using manufacturer-supplied parts, certainly that is so here in the UK. I suggest you investigate just what is involved in getting a vehicle approved for the 35kW regulation. Your local vehicle regulating Government body should be able to supply that info - perhaps on their website?
