Default 04 ultra build

04 ultra classic with 20k on the clock. Parts are at the machine shop now getting 95” bore with a planned cp of 10-1. Here are my questions I need help or advice with.

What cylinder heads ears would be the best for this budget build? Newer twin cams bolt on with a valve job? Spend the money for clean up and valve job on the 04 heads?

I have a set of tw55 cams that I could throw in but my research has came up slim with reports from others using them.

for one, your going to want to set compression at 10.5-1.second,id go 98" over 95".as far as headwork goes,if your just going to bolt on a set,get 06 up heads, but my suggestion would be to have your heads worked with 1.9/1.6 valves

i can probably get the compression up to 10.5 with a smaller gasket just need to check piston height. I like the idea of using my original heads and just have them re worked also. Any information on the tw55?

I with Kirby but would go up to 11:1 on compression with the right cam and tune. Get compression up with domed pistons and avoid decking heads. There is a reason why you are not finding a lot of info on the TW55 cams; not commonly used which should tell you something.

What is your goal? It’s impossible to make suggestions if the goal is unknown.

A better cam selection for that bike would be something as easy as an Andrews 37, set at 9.8-10.0, along with a set of cylinder heads.

Kirby will be doing the heads for it, as for cam selection I have used the 37 before with good seat of the pants results but never had the bike on a dyno.
I’m looking at the fueling cams now.

Wood 6H would be a great set up, with great delivery.
Many cams to choose from.
One thing that you should be VERY aware of, is the undisputed fact that the 2004 year cranks were extremely prone to sissoring, once you apply any power to them.
Have witnessed up to .064" pinion, .042" sprocket T.I.R.(that one was an absolute hot mess)
2007's were next on that list.

Been awhile since I posted. I picked up some heads that were done by veetwin in 2016 with pistons and cylinders set up for 10.5, got all the parts on the bench and checked cylinder bore and clearances. Hopefully this week I’ll have the gasket kit , compensator and still need to choose a set of cams. The goal is to have it completed for riding to Daytona in March.
