Default engine spins but doesnt crank

I have a 95 Harley Dyna super glide and the other day while riding my bike bogged down when I tried to speed up to get on the highway. When I pulled over I could hear a sound coming from the primary cover. I was able to get the bike almost home when it lost all power to the motor and I pretty much had to coast the bike down a hill to get to where I could have a buddy pick up my bike. Since getting the bike home I have been trying to see what could be the issue but to no luck so far. When I pulled the cover everything looks fine nothing torn or broken. No broken metal, everything still looks really good. I checked the starter and it catches and turns over but still does not start the bike when I try to start the bike now it sounds really fast with a click sound that's coming from the starter/ primary area. I'm not trying to spend a crap ton of money on this issue even though it looks like I might have to. Does anyone have an idea of what may be the issue? I have a video but it's not loading on the forum.

Pull the spark plugs and hit the starter button see if it pumps air out the holes, you can also pull the inspection cover on the primary to see if everything's moving like it should in there. It doesn't somethings sheared in the primary.

Welcome to the forums.

Could be the Stator or the Voltage Regulator has gone south, which then completely drained the battery. There are numerous videos on You-Tube and multiple posts here in the Forums that will explain how to check on the charging system.

If the starter does indeed spin the motor over, do as TwiZted says. Need to do a compression test. 140+ psi in both cylinders for a stock motor is good... If that tests good then start with the ignition. The cam position sensors have been known to fail..(brown Goo).... Do you have a Factory Service Manual?

Check it "dry" then "wet." if there's a marked difference, then it's likely rings.
How many miles on the bike?
Has the ICB been changed?

Don't overwhelm the guy, start with what Twisted said. Make sure the pistons are moving. then report back.

Did you look to see if anything is moving inside the primary ? I'm guessing something came loose in there so the engine isn't being turned over at all, if it was the compression gauge would have shown something.

Do the simple **** first save yourself some head scratching and hand wringing.
