Default Cheaper build? Only the third time asked I'm sure...

Looking for a budget build, I think I read somewhere the the jugs from a 96in will fit the 88 tc? Can't remember.. Or would it be better just to have headwork done? I can get jugs and pistons cheap... So I'm not sure which one would be best for me?
Just want a little more umph..
Already cam'ed and geared the bike.

Thanks

The jugs on a 96 are the same as an 88. The extra 8 cubes is due to the 4.375" crank vs the 4.00" crank on the 88.

Budget build....bore your 88 jugs to 98" and get a cam to match or use your cam and make sure it'll work with the increased displacement.

Bore to 98".
Andrews 37 at 9.8-10.0 cr.
That will cover a long list of bikes/riding styles.

The OP did not mention fuel management or exhaust and funds may not be available for boring, porting, fuel management and exhaust so the upgrades might have to be done in phases. If the OP is not currently running a fuel management system and the current motor has not been dyno tuned, he should consider finding a tuner that will sell him a Power Vision license and have the motor dyno tuned as a Phase I upgrade. Phase II would be boring to 98"; clean up heads, new guide seals, maybe new springs, SERDI valve job, (set up so compression works with current cam set); .030" head gasket and retune. Include head porting in Phase II if funds are available; if funds are not available, include head porting and exhaust upgrade (depends on what OP is currently running), retune in Phase III. Of course it would be better if the OP could wait until the funds were available to do everything at one time. JMHO.

And, I'll add if it is an early T/C(?), then those super-constricted exhaust ports, that HD had cast to purposely drive heat into the engine, need to be attended to.
We bring those to a raised floor configuration even on our Stage I Heads.

If you have "a few grand" a 98" top end and ported heads are well within reach. SS exhaust is not the best performer but if you are not chasing every bit of TQ/HP, they aren't the worst. The 37 cam with the right compression and maybe a set of 1.7 ratio rockers will make some decent numbers if set up right. A programmable ignition would also be a good addition to the package.
