20 year storage
New to group, hope this is proper forum. Bought a 91 FLHTC with 50k miles on it. The owner drove it into the shed and left it there in 1999. Did not drain fuel or anything, thought he would ride it again but did not. Other than the throttle being seized it doesn't seem in to bad of shape. My question is what to do before attempting to fire it up. Plugs, battery, new oil, clean fuel tank out. Any advice is appreciated.

Don`t put a lot of oil in the tank, just a quart in the tank is enough because there may already be a couple of quarts down in the crankcase, and it will need room to return to the tank once the engine is running.
Put a drain pan under the breather hose, it is going to barf some oil out, let it run for a few minutes so it can scavenge the oil out of the crankcase.
Once it has run long enough to scavenge the oil back to the tank, you can drain the tank and put in fresh oil and a new filter.

All good suggestions up there. One thing I would definitely do is pull the spark plugs take some marvel mystery oil and just give it a pump or two down into each cylinder, put the transmission in gear and then spin the motor over with the rear wheel in 2nd or 3rd gear. Just make sure everything moves good, once you confirm that then I would put a decent battery in it and crank it over 30 seconds at a time to clear the case of oil just in case it did sump l into the case... naturally the plug wire should be grounded and the fuel and everything would be off you don't want to get crap into the cylinders or more crap into the carburetor or anything but yeah you're going to need to rebuild the carburetor clean that up and might find you going to need some new gaskets and seals along the way, time will tell. You're also most definitely going to need to replace the intake seal at the heads as well. I'm sure they're dried and cracked and don't forget to check the vacuum line to the voes switch as well you could be sucking air there also there's a list of many things those are just a few more to add to what everybody else has been saying..
Congrats and good luck....

WilliamKevin: Nice looking bike. In the early years of the Evolution motor, they were much more performance able until MOCO and EPA started having more regular pow-wows.
You certainly sound like you know a thing or two concerning bikes. Keep us posted on how the revival is going and best-a-luck!
