When sitting at idle or when riding you can hear the vented air coming through the vent hole (no, it’s not the sucking sound from the carb pulling air)."

If you didn't assemble the breathers wrong, there is likely something wrong with the scavenge pump. These bikes need tensioners replaced every 20 to 40K It's worth while to check cylinder leakdown.

How many miles on the motor?

Well it has about 5000 miles on a complete top end rebuild, new valves and seats, the head was re-done at about 2000 miles due to the builder over tightening a push rod and bending a valve and retainer. When the head was re-done he looked into the cam chest and everything to make sure everything was good, and didn’t see anything and checked the cam shoes and what not.

you are going to need to go in the camchest an inspect things there as it sounds like you have a scavenge issue going on. there are lots of things to guess at, but the inspection is easy and gets around guesswork. take the cover off and take a look.

Runs with air filter off, but dies with filter on - clogged breather passage. Pull backing plate, check hoses, etc..

cleaned all the hoses and the bolts and what not earlier . When I put it all back together the vent is substantially louder than it ever has been and running like crap. I even cleaned the carb and it made no difference.

Marcodarq I will next week, I’m actually on vacation with the bike currently and decided I was done messing with it until I trailer it back home. I’m still lost as to why it is venting so loudly.

So I rented a compression tester from Autozone and of course it didn’t work because it was the wrong size. But when I pulled the rear plug it was black and had oil on it. Pulled the head and found oil pooled up on the exhaust valve relief on the rear cylinder. Yeah, I know I should have probably checked compression before doing this.

Your that far might as well pull jugs and get some .03 over Pistons/bore. Maybe lap vavles/ not sure but those look strange. Put some Harley plugs in those have a huge gap.

3-4K miles after a complete top end rebuild, I’ll never pay to have someone do work on my bikes again. I’d rather mess up and damage my own stuff, rather than pay $1600 and have it blow up a year later. Oh, and the builder over tightened a pushrod and bent a valve that I had replaced by a different shop.

Those look like cast 95 ci pistons. I suspect the motor is a 95. IIRC there aren't any cast 103 domed pistons for a 103 build.

Out of the 06 catalog.
