Blew oil cap off and now it won’t idle

Long story short I bought the bike a few years ago and was told “it has cams”. ran it for about a year and a half and it started to smoke for whatever reason so I had it rebuilt (complete top end with heads) during the rebuild the shop owner told me “it has a 103” kit on it and it’s has the sh*t beat out of it”. He did whatever he did, poorly apparently, and now 3-4k miles and a bent valve and marred retainer later, I’m back at a rebuild again. I would assume he was thinking of a TC 96 which with the same big bore kit would be “103in kit” IIRC.

Would that be the “rattle” for lack of a better term, that I hear from a heavy roll on from low rpm (1800-2000)? I’ve been chasing it since the rebuild and haven’t found it. I honestly thought it was a floating valve.

With the motor build, you'll need to back off on the timing. HD used to sell, -5 and -10 degree ignitions. Not sure if you have one but your best bet is to go to a Daytona Twin Tech if running carb. If running EFI, others might be able to help here.

And quit burying the throttle at 1800 rpm...
Not to scare you but the last time my engine had a bunch of noise coming out the breather and extra pressure in the oil bag was after I blew it up. The compression chamber pressure from the combustion stroke was going around the rings and compressing the crankcase and blowing lots of oil out the vents.

I’ve got a buddy that has some jugs, he is going to go through them and see if he has a matching set. I’m going to go ahead and start over and rebore with all new stuff. Now seems to be the time to go gear drive I suppose while I’m at it.
