I have an 07 softail standard with V&H big radius pipes and stock intake with K&N filter. I've looked all over the bike for some type of programmer and havent found any. The only thing I've found was what I assume is an O2 sensor resistor. Question is am I better off with the resistor or just removing them and plugging the O2 sensors back in? I know the ideal thing would be to get a programmer, but that not an option right now
The resistor tells the ECM to stay in "Open Loop" mode, which meters fuel based on the other sensors around the FI system. When the ECM goes into Closed Loop mode it only uses the oxygen sensors for feedback whether or not to add or subtract fuel on the next intake stroke.
I'd leave em' in. Chances are Open Loop will give better fueling than the oxygen sensors would give, especially under light acceleration and cruise.
that is an ole hot rod trick to fool the ecm to go down the middle of the road, there is also a diode trick and that maybe just that is. a diode has a pretty stable voltage drop around .6 volts and this is seen by the ecu and once again down the middle of the road.

Yeah, we did the same thing to an 02 Tahoe. The air ride compressor was shot and the PO installed some Bilstein coilovers instead of replacing the air ride. There was a constant "service air ride" message on the dash so we tricked it to get the message to clear.
