Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Looking to see what kind of millage others have managed on their tc 103 engine. I have a 2014 heritage with 56,500 miles now. I have had no issues. I did replace the cam chain tensioner shoes at 45,000. good thing too because one shoe was close to being worn through. I went with fueling and s&s adjustable pushrods. I have run mobile 1 full synthetic 20w50 mc oil since the 10,000 mile mark. Vance and Hines long shots and high flow air intake running fuelpak3.
I love the bike and just looking to see what millage others have gotten to on this engine and your experiences in longevity., reliability, and durability. beautiful day in ga mountains
Beautiful bike, early in its life I rode my 88ci like I stole it pretty much every day. I've blown the trans three times in 40,000 miles (100% cause I'm a ding dong, was Tryin to break it to give me an excuse to bump displacement)
Just last week I replaced the cam tensioners, upgraded to Woods TW6 cams and a tune. I'm guessing it will go another 30,000, maybe, before it's time for another motor.
45,000 on my 2013 fat boy but work and winter keep me off more than I'd like.. No issues whatsoever.
I thought the cam chain tensioners were a problem on the early Twinkies, as I had a 2001 dyna 88 that I addressed. Didn't know they were still having problems years later.
the earlier twc engines had spring loaded tensioners and went much faster. The newer twc have hydraulic tensioners but they are still a plastic shoe riding against a steel chain. they still wear and need to be checked. at 45,000 one of mine looked brand new but the other has more wear than i wanted to let go so i replaced them both.

I just past 50k on my 2013. The bike still runs like a champ.

Pssst... the balance shaft tensioners are made of the same ****.
