Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Yes, I have used that tool and it's so you do not need to tear down the motor to change the valve springs. The only issue I had was the threaded rod should be another 3/16 longer but other than that it works as described.
Few times over the years, I've used pry bars, wood blocks and whatever I had to do for a valve seal R&R job "on engine" and bought one of those last year. I now use it on the bench as well - gave my c-clamp away....
A decent quality traditional style compressor will cost you 2/3 (or more) of the NUB tool and they won't work on engine. Plus it makes things easy getting the valve locks perfectly spaced and oriented.

That's exactly why I've been looking at it. Seems the traditional style cost a lot more, at least the good ones, and you're manhandling the heads or clamping it down in a vice. This looks way easier for less $$$.
Well not everyone has a drill press or a welder for that matter but yours does look good.
This one seems to work pretty good and as an added benefit can be used on the bike if you ever want. No need to buy the full kit tho.
The good traditional ones suck and are expensive besides. Like the motion pro. $120 but wait, now you need to spend another $89 on the collar for beehive springs. Or Jims. Buy the damn thing but no beehive spring collar. That's seperate.
Are you kidding me? Get bent.
Could just make one to work with my big C clamp but that's time consuming too. This one makes it easy from what I see. And the keepers are fully exposed.
