Hello to all!
Im new to the forum and to HDs as well! I recently purchased the contents of a storage unit and came across a bunch of HD parts and a 2003 100 year anniversary 88 engine case with crank and rods. When I got it home I notice a piece of the case was broken off (shown in the photos)!
1. can this or should this be fixed?
2. How in the hell did this happen?
Looks like a lifter twisted in its bore and snapped the wall off, using the alignment bar as a weapon.
With the missing bearing, cams and other internals to evaluate, it's kinda difficult to diagnose as to what happened and where the destruction began.
I've seen it happen to a buds motor, IIRC he machined slot and manage to fit in a new piece.
It looks like the front inner cam bearing went and maybe a part took out the lifter roller causing it twist. You'll also nee to machine a inner cam bearing sleeve.
