Getting ready to file my rings to fit my cylinders.
Cylinders are stock take off 88, rings are HD .005 oversize.
Manual says .010-.020 on the top ring, that sure seems tight to me, can anyone verify that?
general rule of thumb for ring end gap is .004" for every inch of bore. As an example a 4" bore should have .016 ring end gap. Better to be a little large rather than on the small side. When on the small side and the engine warms up the rings will grow. if they do have enough room to grow they will break and make a mess. good luck dsv

Hey faster, thanks for the get back, and the bump, yea, that is why I was so surprised to see the clearance minimum in the factory manual for stock pistons/rings at .010.
That seems way to tight for me, I am wondering if it is because of the aluminum cylinders with the steel sleeves, maybe they expand more than say a chevy with cast engine blocks.
I have them filed to .012 top, .016 second, factory calls for min of .010, .014.
I am not sure if I am going to leave them at this or go wider.
Cant imagine the manual being wrong.
