Default 98 RK Running LEAN...

Ok, so as I'm waiting for the carb conversion parts to trickle in (read: waiting for the wallet to recover after each purchase...), I want to get it running just right. My bike is running lean, and seemingly getting leaner. Though I initially suspected the ETS, and have ordered a replacement, as a fix for the cold start issue, I'm beginning to suspect that this isn't the true source of the issue. The bike has a PCIII, and was dyno tuned--ran absolutely wonderfully a month ago.

What could be causing a lean condition? PCIII puking? An issue with the fuel delivery? I've done a bit of searching and read that the in-tank fuel line can develop leaks, causing this issue--what does the present group think?

Bike is hard to start when cold, takes a long time to warm up, and is now popping on gear changes (not just on decel...). It doesn't feel quite as strong as it once did, and the plugs are getting that ashy whiteness... Classic lean issues.

Should I yank the PCIII to test? Thoughts?

Have you checked the manifold to head seals?

Sounds like an intake leak.

Ok, hadn't thought of that for some reason... I'll test for that. Should I shoot WD40 into the area while idling to test?

You can but you might as well just change them anyway.

John, I might have to have a look at that as well (may as well...). Is this accessed through the top without having to drain the fuel tank? Or am I looking at a tank removal situation? Thanks!

top of the tank - a kit is available to mod it as the main line as it develops cracks and draws air if the tank is low - you need to inspect the lines and fittings as they are suspect

Awesome. I'll have a look in the morning. I'll see if I can google the kit--anyone have a good source for these? I take it they're not a dealer item?

By the way, the intake gaskets were $2 each at the dealer...
