Default transmission gearing question

Talking 5 speed trannys here. Are the internal gears the same for the touring bikes as they are for say a Softail, or are there different ratios?

I think you will find the internal ratios are the same across all big twin models. On some softail years the overall gearing is slightly higher. The earlier Evos were built at a time when EPA was clamping down on noise emissions in particular, for bikes, and the industry was struggling IMHO to deal with those regulations, so they tried to make things as uniform as possible.
