Default Rocker Box Gaskets

Hey guys, I seem to be weeping a growing amount of oil from my rocker boxes. I recall reading somewhere that certain gasket kits would begin to weep again shortly after being replaced but I cannot seem to find which ones. Are James gaskets good for my bottom breather?

If you just changed your rocker box gaskets and they are still leaking look for a warped rocker box piece.
James, Cometic, and HD all use rubber rocker box gaskets.

I haven't changed them yet, so they are probably the originals. I will do them with the cam but I didn't want to buy a set that people had trouble with in the past.

Never had an issue with cometic.....when you do the cam make sure your breather gear is ok and lined up properly....

When you have them off make sure you check the rocker boxes for warping.
Take each piece individually and put it on a piece of glass and see if it rocks back and forth at all.

Thanks, is that a common issue?

I just put together a 107 with the Cometic gasket kit. Both the rocker box covers weeped oil from the get go. I tore it back down to remedy a separate probelm and when I go back it will be with a different gasket brand.

Cometic uses metal gaskets here with a coating which in my case did not seal very well. The stock gaskets have rubber inserts as well as the James gasket kits. I'll either use the stock or James.

Now that is just overkill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it is a common problem but you don't need to change your rocker boxes every rebuild.
A member on here flattened out a rocker box (middle piece I think) with a hand tamper from Home Depo.
He laid a rag down on the floor then the warped piece and finally another rag on top and hit it with the tamper.
Flattened it right out.

HD wants about $100 a piece for those things (that's $600 for all).
Hand tamper is about $25. It's worth a try.
