I have a 1998 softail springer and I'm trying to find new rims for it. I've seen different opinions that a regular fxst rim will bolt right in and others that say the springer rim is offset so it won't work. Has anybody tried this or know if a springer rim is definitely different? My tire size is 21 × 2.15 if that matters thanks

 

The FXSTS wheel is offset and a stock FXST will not bolt right in. Look at any aftermarket wheels and the FXSTS takes a different hub. I have never actually tried to bolt one in...so I don't know if you could make it fit with just different spacers, or you would need to machine the wheel.

 

Thank you for the answer, not the one I wanted but thank you lol. I didn't have another bike to compare rims with. I did a search and seen that a few guys did it with the flstc and the flsts and it was the same witch raises another question. Is the springer on my bike the same as the heritage? Can I swap the 21×2.15 for the 16×3.5 ? Maybe go for a different look altogether. Obviously the fender would have to go but I'm thinking the two front ends would be the same

 

The FL front end is completely different...the rake is different, the fender mounts are different, and the brake is on the opposite side. I believe getting brake rotor to line up will be the biggest hurtle with putting an FXST wheel on it. If you are not planning on running a front fender, it wouldn't be hard to get any wheel to work.

 

I don't plan on running a front fender. I was just wondering about the wider tire thinking that the forks themselves would be the same width apart and I could flip the wheel so the rotor is on the correct side haven't done any research it was just a quick thought. Maybe I will grab a cheap used fsxt rim off of eBay and see what problems I might run into. If it's just lining up the caliper it should be an easy problem to solve. Thanks again

 

If you don't plan on running a fender, running an FXST wheel will be no big deal, the reason for the offset is to get the wheel centered under the fender...it would look better centered between the forks...never understood why they offset it like they did.

 

To be honest I never noticed mine to be that far off like the one in the picture. Now I want to look at it but I'm not home. If it's just a fender issue that's crazy. Think it would be easier for harley to make a different fender to line up instead of making a different rim. Like I said I don't plan on running a fender so hopefully the brakes all line up.

 

Now that I think about it, I always ran rice burners, even did a little track time. Even they run the front tire a little offset to balance the weight of the engine being more on one side. Probably the same reason harley did it

 

Except for the fact that the only Harley's with an offset front tire are FX springers and and 07 fatboys...go figure.

 

That is strange. Maybe they were designed on a Friday and everybody said f-it lol. Well I'm just gonna order the front rim I want for the fsxt and hope it all works out. Looked for some used ones on ebay with no luck so wish me luck. Hopefully the brakes kinda line up
