Late Evo 5-speed in 1989 softail frame?
Anyone know if there's an adapter to mount a later Evo 5-speed (the kind with the starter mounted to it) onto a 1989 Softail frame? I have the older 4-speed from when I disassembled the bike, but I have a newer transmission and would love to use that instead.
Thanks for any guidance.

You can get an adapter to put a 5 speed in a 4 speed frame...you will have to use a 5 speed primary also...BUT an 89 did not have a 4 speed from the factory...so it may already have an adapter to put a 4 speed in a 5 speed frame...need some pics of what you have.

glidein-- the frame is stock Harley, and the tag is correct for 1989.

You just need a trans plate to bolt it in the frame.

And a complete 5 speed primary. If you have the 89 set-up that will work. If you are looking for used you can use anything from 89 -06 but you need to have all the parts from the same "group" 89-93 94-97 and 98-06...pretty easy to find a complete set-up from one bike, from someone who converted to an open belt drive.

He knows that is five, that is why he wants to put that one in,took out a four speed. Frame may have been modified for a four speed, needs to go back to five speed adapter(I think anyway).
