I rode a '92 FXRS-SP from fall of '91 to '94 and regretted trading it in ever since ...
finally got another one. Its a '89 FXRS with 10.5/1 pistons, EV27 cam and Super E.

1985 FXR-sp HARLEY
Hello,
Im looking to buy a 1985 FXR this month and i found one with the 5th&6th VIN# EG which is supposed to be the SPORT MODEL. Ive found different and varying info on the 2" longer forks for ground clearance, duel front discs for the SP.
I heard 1985 is a mix bag year,so how can i be sure it has the longer forks?
Anyone know the length of the 2" longer FXR-SP FORKS?
I found the bike for under $5k and the milage reads under 4k on odometer, its at a local dealer and im clarifying the milage tomorrow. They included the red digits which are 1/10th,so it looks in the ad that it had 40,000 not 4k.
What are some things i should look for to make sure im getting a dry bike. Besides theoushrod tubes and base gaskets what else can i do when i go look at it to make sure it will be reliable,im using it for transportation to and from work to save on gas i stead of driving my truck.
Thank you for any info on the "EG"(5&6th letter) VIN FXRs

You're on the right track so far. Without 5 posts or days you can't add pix, something like that. So it's hard to tell about fork lengths.
Welcome to the forum and if you'll take a suggestion, start a new thread and you'll get more responses and some more help than necro-posting.

I think you'll find the Sport model comes standard with twin front rotors and they have the longer forks and (stock) rear shocks. At nearly 30 years old however there is no knowing what might have been done to it!

1990 fxlr
Hey everyone I am new to this forum and to Harleys. My father gave me this bike as a rider but have found some issues. So I am tearing down and remodeling. It is a 1990 FXLR or a super glide low rider custom for those that don't know what fxlr means. I am curious as to what type of front suspension that you guys would recommend and where to get it right now it has 39mm forks but am changing the color scheme to black with red. Any suggestions would be great and pictures of the bike are attached as well as the new scheme.
Front of bike and rear it is blue. New theme is something like the red and black but with my setup.
