Default ? re: Seats...differences just for a Springer?

So I'm saw a couple of seats of ebay....and two of them said they'd fit Softails, but added note...not a Springer.

What's the differences regarding a seat?

Ideally I want a Mustang Regal Duke..it's a pillow top seat, with a good passenger pillow back there, my wife loved that seat on my Shovelhead.

I notice that HD made a similar looking seat..pillow top, as well as a similarly shaped seat but it has small ribs/ridges, not pillow top with buttons and dimples.

That seat I have now...the passenger pad is severely lacking, she was fed up after 15 minutes on the back of that. It's a brand new seat they put on the bike before I bought it, that seat is going.

I'm not sure on the difference for a seat between a softtail and a springer. You might try contacting the Mustang seat people directly and asking them if it would fit. It might be something like the bolt hole location on the fender. Not sure.

That seat would not go over very well at my house either.

Mustang has 7 different Softail fitment categories, soon to be 8. Here's the short version.

1984-99 - aside from the 97-99 FLSTS with the newer fender, all these Softails have the older frame and the older "FX" fender.

2000-07 Deuce - due to the tank, this gets its own category

2000-06 new frame-old fender models: FLSTC and FLSTF 2000-06, and all FXST models (except the Deuce) 2000-05

2000-15 new frame-new fender models: FLSTS 2000-03, FLSTSC 2005-07, FLSTN 2005-15, FLSTC 2007-15

200mm rear tire models - FXST (other than Deuce) 06+, FLSTF... 2007+, FLSTSB 2008-11

FXSB Breakout

FLS & FXS

And we are developing new ones for the FLSTC and FLSTN 2016 because our pans won't fit these.

Softails are the trickiest to fit to due to so much variance in the bikes. But if you know what category above you fall into, it gets a little easier.

So, if his 97 softtail springer is not a Heritage model, then it is Old Frame, Old Fender and all old softail (up through 99) seats will fit, and if it is a Heritage model then it is Old Frame New Fender and none of your seats will fit, is that it?

Any 84-99 FX softail seat will fit that bike...most 84-99 FL softail seats will fit that bike.

Hey cat I don't know if this applies but I took a seat off a '95 FL softail and put on a '94 FX softail and it fit like a glove.

I thought the only difference between a springer and a regular one was the front end..

I liked the mustang seat I put on my last bike so much, I had to put one on the wide glide. Tricky because they discontinued it for my year so I had to buy one for an older FXWG with FAT BOB fender and modify the front mount on seat to fit the frame.... perfection.
