Default What year did Harley go to the 2.2 inch hub on their wheels...

Upgraded the wheels on my Low Rider for my build, now I need a 1 1/2 inch rear belt wheel pulley with a 2.2 diameter hub bore and I'm having trouble figuring out when they when to the 2.2 hub and if they have a 2.2 hub/1 1/2 inch belt pulley. Did they switch over in 2000? Or am I going to have to bore mine out?

Thanks and Have A Happy 4th!

2000 sounds right.....I would think they did it when they changed over to the 1" bearings but that's a guess.

Correct. It's actually referred to as a 2.25 hub, and there is a 1 1/2" belt pulley. You will also need a rotor.

My 1999 Night Train has 1 1/2 drive belt and Timken tapered bearings. The 2000 year model 21" front wheel that I have has sealed bearings, but they are for use with a 3/4" axle. It takes the "big hole" rotor and the '99 wheels do not.

With a later hub you also have the opportunity to change from the original wide belt to a later narrow one. I have a 1 1/8" belt on my 1990 Glide, with a Deuce rear wheel, a 2004 touring wheel before that. IIRC the narrow belt was introduced 2004, so for a 1 1/2" pulley you should look at 2000-2003 bikes.

Thanks for the help guys!

This is what I found, in case someone else does anything like this and needs the number:

The Pulley (70 tooth, 1-1/2 inch wide) is HD part number 40217-00. 2000-03 FLH/FLT

I've already got the rotor. I want to stick with the 1-1/2 inch belt since I have tendency to get a little frisky and do burnouts once in a while, probably moreso after Scott at Hillside does his magic on the heads

Bear in mind that the latest bikes come with 1" belts, be assured they are perfectly capable of dealing with high performance engines. The reduced belt width comes with improved belt technology. My 1 1'8" belt is fine with my S&S 107", with a little over 100/100.

Can a 21" front wheel from a recent Softail with its brake disc be used on an Evo Softail? I know the bearings would need to be changed to 3/4" ID, would the brake rotor match up to the caliper and would the hub width match?

Definitely something for me to think about, what's the widest tire I can put on a 3 inch wide rear wheel? 150?
