I have a '97 FLHT. I put and EV 27 and an Arlen Ness "Big Sucker" air cleaner, with Cycle Shack muffler pipes (true duals, no cross over). The bike runs fantastic. If I was to change anything else, I would probably upgrade the ignition, but truly not necessary.

Yeah. Put me on that list. Just found a crack in the right side exhaust pipe. Either need to weld it up or replace the whole damn thing with a ThunderHeader...

Haha, you won't get too far with my credit card! Been saving for a few months though and getting ready to pull the trigger soon. That steel breather gear is pricy$$

Stock breather gear is about $15.00. Works fine.

I'd stick with the plastic breather gear.

43K on a cared for EVO is nothing to worry about. If you want more power, EVO with a Cam and some minor head work wake up a lot.
I have a 2-1 exhaust on my 96 FB due to the side car IMO sounds like chit. True dual rob torque. No getting around that.
If you do not have one get a service manual. Also make sure to clean the tappet screen every other oil change .
Enjoy EVO's are a fun ride. Many reasons my 1996 is still here when many others have come and gone.
Find a better dealer the one to mentioned is worthless.
Think about it bike is 20 years old 43K seems to be doing pretty good. Why mess it up? Give it what it needs add some TLC and ride.

Sound advice sir, thank you! I believe I will hold off on the head pipe and stick to basic, proven mods. Cam, jets, air filter, and let it rip! Winter just showed back up here in upstate new york, but at least I can sit in the shop and make vroom vroom noises and polish chrome, haha!

And a follow up...good place to find a factory service manual? I see one on amazon for '97 FLT for 65 bucks? Seem right? Also see the police supplament for same price...kinda gotta have it just because it's cool!
