Lifter swap advive

Funny how this turned into a tool discussion..... The tool is primarily for the alignment of the oil port on the gasket. One should always check to make sure that port lines up properly. I actually open up that hole in the gasket a little too match case.... Insurance........
Oh yea, my bad i didn't mean the heads but just the rocker assembly... Carry on......

[QUOTE=flhchaz;16156093]Hey all. I am changing out the lifters on my '97 Electra Glide. I currently have adjustable pushrods and am replacing them with the stock pushrods, the threads on the adjustables have a bad spot in them (another reason to do your own wrenching).
Should I use the alignment tools for the lifter blocks? Some use them, and some don't. If you don't want to wait for the alignment tool and cheap like me, you can use a 1/4-20 counter sunk screw and it works. OR you can just start the bolts down to a snug, wiggle your block back and forth to center and lock it in. I also replaced the 12 point bolt with socket head types (see pic).
Do I need to have the piston at the top of it's travel to put everything back together? Best way is to have rear end of bike up so you can rotate engine by turning wheel to get cam on low side of lobe. Have patience as the lifters bleed down, and you can freely rotate your PRs before proceeding to the next set.
