That is the reason not to go with dual exhaust and run a 2-1. That sucks man. I hope you get her fixed up

I was wondering when that y pipe would break,
my original broke, and the twin cam head pipes I replaced them with is built better in the y area.

I would not even try to weld the old pipes, won't be dependable.

I'm pretty sure I still have the head pipes, they're yours, just PM me,

only thing is I think you have the flanges on the fishtails,

you can cut the flange off, on old style mufflers, but it will be the same size as the later head pipes and won't slip on, but you can cut the end that slips-on off of later style mufflers and weld them on after cutting the flanges off.

or get 'later mufflers, HD stopped using flanges in '95

Ya, wouldn't try and weld it, looks like it broke from getting thin. Finding a used head pipe would be the most economical approach, it cut mine up for a ghost pipe so no help that way.

If things don't come together or a head pipe isn't available quickly, let me know and I'll send you a complete Propipe to stick on it to make the Texas run, it is hanging on the wall and no hurry to get it back and give you some time to find something.

Dang, Omaha, your string of bad luck is starting to rival that of Calamity Joe.

First, the good news: Ran a compression test and got a nice 130 pounds on each cylinder. I think the motor is fine.

Got the exhaust off. Yep. It's broke.

Got a question on that, though. Here's the parts diagram:

(The part that broke is shown as #30, just to be clear.)

See that bracket listed as #24? Is that supposed to be mounted to anything? There what appears to be a mounting point above the starter that would more or less lineup with the #24 bracket, but mine was not attached. Been that way since I got the bike. Never gave it any thought until now. Makes me wonder...

You guys are awesome! This is an amazing group!

I'm trying to figure out my options here. I've got roughly a week and a half to get this sorted.

As Schex implied, all things being equal, I want to keep my fishtails.

Found this on J&P: Paughco makes a non-crossover header that includes the flange mounts. That looks like an option.

Ugh. I'm going to sleep on this then see how things look tomorrow.

Yep. It's tough but possible. I used exhaust tape prior so the metal was so thin it would barely hold heat. I used a mig gun for that one..

#24 does mount to the starter or real close. They are a bit of a pia and it's been awhile since I fooled with one. Seen a good many bikes missing that bracket.

I have a set of stock late model mufflers in my garage you can have, but they probably would cost more to ship than they are worth.

on my 85, #24 is bolted to the bracket #35 which is bolted to the selanoid and inner primary. #24 in the part list pic appears to be backwards, the angled part of the clamp should be toward the carb side of the bike.
