Default 1995 Ultraclassic Magnetti-Marelli Fuel Injection Issue

I'm having an issue with my 1995 30th Anniversary Edition Ultraclassic Magnetti-Marelli fuel injection system.

Specifically: the engine starts and idles just fine, though the idle RPM is a little low. After letting the engine warm up, and accelerating in first gear, at about 2500 RPM, the engine starts to spit and sputter, and sometimes stalls. If I can get it past 3000 RPM the engine smoothes out.. It acts like its not getting enough fuel at 2500 RPM. What can cause this? The bike set for about 3 years before I bought it. This is my first experience with the M-M injection system.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a temperature sensor going out. Check with your local dealer and they should be able to get one for you. It will set you back close to a hundred dollars, common issue.
Another common issue is to look under the timing cone for any signs of a beige goo leaking out, that is the sign of the camshaft position senor going bad.
You can use the search function and find information on all of these. Easy fixes as well.
Welcome to the EVO crowd.

I don't think this is a head temp sensor issue. I think you need to adjust the throttle position sensor. There are good instructions around on how to do it. You might try going through the EVO section here first.

Carl,

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll check the TPS setting.

First thing you need to do is get a Factory Service Manual and read through the EFI section. Someone will chime in here shortly and tell you to ditch the system for a carb. I for one find that it is a very simple and reliable system once you learn it. 108K miles and counting on my 97 MM Ultra.

You need to check the Diagnostics Trouble Codes and see if any show up. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ble-codes.html

If no codes show up I would start with a good cleaning of the fuel system. New filter and a heavy dose of seafoam. IM has a very good check list for your system you should go over. Here is a link https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-c...l#post16247684 post number 13 in this tread.
