hey guys i need some help here please, so last year i bought a 97 road king of a friend of mine and right away the engine would come on but go out right away, would do this off and on but run good, now the engine light is on steady and runs rough and is burning very lean, the spark plugs are black and exhaust is black i put new plugs in thinking they were fouled but no change, it is fuel injection and have heard nasty things about that system, is there anywhere i could look or any suggestions ? as the mechanic i was talking to here in kamloops can't look at it for at least a month, thanks

EVO forum. Not CVO...E.V.O. as in Evolution engine which is what you have in your bike.

Black plugs and black smoke is the opposite of lean. The EVO section of the forum would be your best bet.

 

You need to find out what fault code you have that is causing the check engine light to come on. There are directions in here in the EVO section for how to do that. After you get the code, the same place you get the directions from on how to retrieve it should have a table to look up the fault.

Basically, you turn the ignition on/off on/off on then leave it on and count the number of times the light blinks.
