98 Road King Cam Position Sensor
#11
It would seem like your bike has a carb.
Reason: in 1998 the Road King had a fuel injection version on the 1998 Road king Classic.
Wondering if there is a difference in the cup for fuel injected.
While the number for original factory part might be the same for the carb and fuel injected versions, it makes me wonder if there would be a difference with fuel injected if the alternative is used.
The timing thing makes sense since original factory part requires no timing when mounted in the factory position.
Also makes sense why a poster a few years ago could not get it to run with aftermarket part on a fuel injected road king...probably mounted it in the same time position as original factory part and was off timed.
I guess the three wire connections would be the same.
If the wires connections are different then i guess some posi-loc or posi-tite could be used to connect wires easily.

The EFI factory part is installed with bolts going through the single bolt hole on the left and right side of the sensor plate. No timing of motor.
Original cam sensor part is probably matched to cup so that is why no timing was required.
It would seem like yours requires timing of motor (with rotation of plate).
If the someone tried to install the aftermarket sensor in same position of the original factory EFI cam sensor then maybe that caused the motor to be off time.
Wondering if it is a cup thing with the EFI or the position of sensor on plate.
Either way it might be a solution if folks remember to time motor and remember the safety of bank angle sensor will be bypassed.

This is the part and it has the holes for the EFI or to be used as an adjustable one. Different holes used is all..

I run one of theirs in my 98 RK.

You run that plate in the link on a 1998 road king that is fuel injected.
On your 1998 road king with fuel injection, do you bolt in the small single placement holes or do you have to time the motor?

Don't splice it. It'll reach... I would replace it exactly how you found it, according to the position you took the old one out..

Bolted in at the stationary holes provided on the plate. No timing necessary.
