You´re right Mike et al, might as well go for a full overhaul seeing as i don´t know the history from PO and it might fix the issue as well as give me a start point for the next few years. The rotors may have to wait...economics and all that!

Just remember that your bike takes dot 5 not dot 4.

Yes good catch! I already made a mistake with using 5.1 which I was sold as 5 and had to flush my rear brakes...5.1 is not 5!

Very true - been there! Whoever it was in DOT who thought that calling that spec 5.1 should be stood against a wall and shot. On second thoughts, even that is too good......

Well I know this is an old thread but you know me...I ;like to finish the conversation hopefully with a solution for whoever reads this later. The answer was first (and immediately) spotted by 1997bagger...it was in fact the anti-rattle springs. Sure I had them, which was what made me keep looking and buy new ones (it took a while) but when I went to replace the new ones I realised that the pads were not placed properly so were not being held by the springs so it was as if I didn't have any. What a ****! Well there's a learning for you.....if it looks obvious, it probably is obvious and you need to be absolutely sure the pieces fit together properly (not very clear in the manual). Now I know for next time.....! (its a bit like checking the plug is in the socket before tearing the TV down!) !!
