I really lost myself this weekend

Nice a 106" Evo.... who's balancing that setup? Don't think that CV 40 is gonna help you any. In fact you should bore the E or go to a G.... definitely will tune better with a G.... I would also put a third jet in the E.. A thunder jet... You will be able to dial it in more precisely especially with the AFR meter....

Totally agree on the carb. I know that CV like the back of my hand so eventually I’ll get the S&S E, but for maximum control of break in variables I wanted a familiar carb.

Pre-flight instrument checks:
and I'm off to the gas station. First thing I notice is the temp difference between front and rear. As warm up took place I was seeing a 30 degree span at times. Front was 140, rear was 110. Even as things warmed up the front was always about 20 higher. Since the front is the hotter one all readings going forward will be for the front cylinder.
Putting around the county roads didn't get to a steady state temp for about 5-7 miles. After that, speeds between 45 and 60 ranged temps in the mid 200's. Yes, mid 200's... Once I realized there was very little chance for a meltdown I hit the interstate. Well, "hit" is a relative term on I-4 around Tampa... A brisk rip up the on ramp only to settle down around 50 mph in snowbird/Disney traffic. Eh, at least I was moving.
Then I got to the I-75 interchange. The Northbound ramp was wide open, so I gassed it! Ended up settling down around 70 for a few miles, then looked down to check the temps and the f#@king thing was off. (Auto-shutoff ) Power it up and, WTF, 236??? Status update confirmed: 14ish:1 AFR, 1450F EGT, and 230-240F CHT. Ok, lets try 75 mph: High 13's AFR, 1500F EGT, 230-240F CHT.
Turned around at Fletcher exit, then 75S for a few miles. Got in some light interchange traffic back at the 4 and seen upwards of 250F, but still nothing alarming. Back up to 70 mph and temps crawled back down to 235F. Now that things are definitely settled down I took Hwy 301 back for some fast stop-n-go (50ish MPH). Stop lights got warm, but never above 270F. Then when moving she'd cool back down in the 240's.
I've asked my dad to come up next weekend. We're gonna take the bikes east to Avon Park to meet his Legion buddies for a lunch. I don't mind putting break-in miles on the bike at a far distance if I know I'm with someone. I'll bring rope.
