Biggest issue with these old units is vibration. Vibration caused the cold solder to break. Open up the radio and look for damaged solder points and re-heat with a soldering iron. I've fixed ignition computers with similar problems before with good luck.

Did you get it fixed? If so, how? My '96 is like your '97 and is dead.

Hold on to that radio. The faceplates are prone to crack, and they are unobtanium now.
