Default 1990 flhtc clutch rod.

I recently was given my uncles 1990 FLHTC that he bought brand new. Low miles at 130k, my issue is the primary inner, outer and transmission is in box. I did not take it apart. I have most everything figured out how it goes back to gather. With the exception of the clutch rod i cant find how it goes back togather. The solid or spring and in what order? thanks for the help. Nick

Hey Nick, welcome to Evoland. Some people hate when we say this, but there is really no substitute for having the factory service manual for your model. They are still available. Another resource are the micro fiches available online from places like Ronnies HD.
I'm not sure about the answer you need, but someone else will be around shortly to help.

Hi Nick and welcome to HDF from the UK. Another 1990 Glide here, owned from new. I confess I don't mess with transmissions myself, I have a tame ex-H-D mechanic to do that. So one possibility is to look around to see if you have someone close near you to rebuild yours. There are several tools required which he should have, or you will need, and he should take very little time compared with you learning! The FSM describes how to strip and rebuild the trans (along with the rest of your bike), see Section 7. There are probably also videos on-line worth seeking out.

It's a cool thing you're doing, getting the bike back on the road.

Maybe post some pics of where you're at with this.

Not sure what your asking. You have a throw out bearing (goes in the mainshaft from right side), the clutch rod pushrod that can be slid in to the mainshaft from the clutch side and then the adjuster.. What spring are you talking about... Need pics...

The challenge here is understanding why he took it apart in the first place. He didn't do that for fun.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like your uncle has passed. Is there anyone around who might be able to shed some light on what he was up to?

This is where finding someone local who knows transmissions can help. There may be something in need of attention or replacement, which will be obvious to someone who knows what he's looking at!
