Does the older s&s 113 run hot? I have a motor built in 1999 by horsepower exp and Hannans heads in Hayward. I was told recently by a fellow FXR rider that his FXR runs HOT. and that i should run a oil cooler. Upon Further inspection he has a 113 twin cam in his bike. My question is for those that have or had the 113, Anyone had any problems. The builders didnt bother to run an oil cooler should I?
I would put some miles on it and see if it runs hot. Timing or jetting could affect how hot the engine runs. If you really need one, an oil cooler is easy to add later.
I have a 4 row cooler with thermistat i used on my 127 bagger. but that system had a oil filter adapter that i will not be able to use on the fxr. my oil filter is under the trans case.
I suspect the engine will be fine, it's the rider who gets hot! We can bake while sitting on these things in the wrong weather or riding gear. An alternative to an oil cooler is one of the twin cooling fan set-ups, which blow air over each head - Love Jugs, or something similar.
