That's fine but the world has went round without guys like you and guys like me that engineer The tool to get it done are the ones that make progress. I don't have the money for a used case I don't want to tear my trans out. What I do have are tools, and determination and the ability to build something to get the job done. It's just a thought. It's not an action, nothing has been done or will it until I can determine that I've come up with a method that may give a reasonable solution. There is nothing wrong with the front wheel Speedo but in my application it just makes the situation difficult to cut down the Speedo gear and run the cable without having to have a custom one made. I don't want to run one of the rear wheel because it's the same situation it would just be a pain in the ***. To have a Speedo with out the cable is just the best solution. But if it means I have to wait because there isn't a good alternative to treating it all apart then that's what I will do.
Wow. You are quite the innovator.

After you get your holes drilled you will want to face off the pad as well. You need a .030-.040" air gap between the speedo pick up and the gear that it is reading off from.I would vote to remove the gear set before doing this.

Simply trying to eliminate the front Speedo gear and cable, and run a new style electronic Speedo.

If it were me, since I tend to do 99.9% of all my customization myself, I would opt for a used trans case off of ebay or a buy/sell/trade board on a motorcycle forum.

Like Mark@Baker said, you have an air gap spec that has to be met which may require shaving the case to achieve.

Again that kinda defeats the purpose. If I was just planning on getting a used case or trans I wouldn't be worried about drilling the hole

we're not telling you that you can't do it - just that it's going to be a LOT of work for little gain. its ~ 2-3 hours to pull and strip a transmission (i know, i hadda pull mine down last year after bending a shift fork....BTW thanks to Mark@Baker for hooking that one up on a friday night)

that being said - if you're dead set on this, at LEAST pull the exhaust and outer primary and get the gearset out.

I ended up selling the road King to get a 69 c10. But I've still been contemplating it on my 96 ultra. If the trans is out you should have no problem drilling it. I was going to attempt it with the trans still in the bike
