Ignition Upgrade
#21
I will say this about the electronic ignition systems out there. I haven't seen a bad one. I took a Compufire with centrifugal advance out of my 77 FXE and installed a used SE ignition module (programable one) from my 98 Evo and coupled it to a Standard Electric pickup Plate (cam position sensor) And it starts Flawlessly. It doesn't matter if I use Electric start or Kick it.... It immediately fires. Doesn't even matter how long it sits... They can be and are very reliable...
On the other hand (Racepres) Not singling you out Marty
I don't think there is a performance upgrade to electronic ignition unless you can change the rate of advance on the curve (which totally depends on your build). Other than that they all work the same. If you take care of what you have it will perform as expected..
I used to run a Accell Dual point in my 73 Small block chevy. Once I got over 3200 rpm that thing screamed....And I never had an issue even at 42* advance..
