Rich/Lean Symptoms, please explain
In the process of tuning my carb. I know that popping through carb is a sign of lean as well through the exhaust. My bike isn’t popping at all, revs fine, just a tiny flat spot at about 1/3 throttle. It goes flat for a second then eventually catches up and continues to rev. I dont know if that’s a sign of bein lean or rich? Bike seems to run a little hot. But maybe not? Oil temp doesn’t go over 200 when riding so might be ok.
I tried the factory settings and at idle I could smell gas out the exhaust. And some gurgling around 40 mph.
Can someone explain what signs of richness or leanness are in different throttle ranges? Thanks ahead of time.

I'm trying to help a guy that insists he's running lean. He's using a Wego III so I get him to post charts (run files) so I can download them into my program to see what truly is going on and guess what? He's rich every where except in the high end... Most people should just go to a tuner or do better research. I know this forum is all about helping but!!!!

That is so true.... The fuels just don't have the deposits or indicators that they use to (lead for one) and because of that i'd say 90% of Harley owners have no idea what to really look for. Like for example the timing mark on the plug. I'll bet most don't even know that and to tune an engine with the timing off just ain't gonna workkkkk....

The wideband trick is the best tool we could add to our inventory and should be on every
modded Harley.
It should be bolted right to the handlebars and as time goes those that smarten up will do it.
The tide will eventually turn.
I feel like the preacher, "telling people to "save their engines from destruction, Save it now, Save all kinds of time and money by buying a simple gadget
that will tell you RIGHT NOW WTH is going on, and all the internet experts-
can go do something else. LOL
Like you said, and other knowledgeable people too-reading a plug is dam near imposable-plus they have no clue when to pull it.
.Plus, on the side of the road can be pretty dangerous.

There are several styles to choose or buy- with one gauge and a switch read front or rear
Or two gauges ETC
Most- Buy one -Install as per direction about 9 inches dwn on front pipe as it runs leaner.
If you mount the bung on the inside (toward the center of bike) no one can see it anyways
The gauge -put it where thou wants.
You will kick your own **** for not doing it sooner once you start to use it.
Why pay the cost of the dyno room when you can have the very same best information at your fingertips?
