Default Need Help Routing Oil Lines for Evolution Engine - 1990 Heritage FLSTC

Hello,

I am trying to restore a 1990 heritage that I inherited.

I was was not the person that disconnected the lines so I am doing my best to figure out the right order.

I have looked at the service manual but I need some help.

The oil tank has two smaller outlets at the front and a large outlet (1/2") at the rear.

I believe the two smaller outlets on the oil tank are for the return from the oil filter and the oil tank vent. I also believe that the large outlet in the rear of the tank is the main feed.

I have taken some pictures that I have labeled what I believe is the correct set-up but I am looking for someone to tell me if it is right or wrong.

In the picture I used the following labeling schemed:

A - main feed - yellow arrow
B - line to oil filter - blue arrow
C - oil tank vent - white arrow
D- return from oil filter - red arrow

Thanks

Oil tank

I think you'll find that this is for the oil tank drain line. Main feed is the curved one to the left.

Does the drain line connect to this metallic plug at the bottom of the frame?

When it's time to change the oil, you can unclip that metal plug and pull the drain hose down and to the side so the old oil can drain into the collection pan when you remove the plug. Makes for a mess-free oil draining.

The oil filter on mine is just the opposite. Definitely NOT mess free. I have to jam a bunch of towels under it before I remove it or oil goes everywhere on the lower front of the motor.

Thanks for the info.

The curved outlet has another curved outlet right behind it that is not visible in the previous picture. If one of them is main feed is the other the return from the filter or is it the oil tank vent?

The large nipple is main feed/drain. You will install a short section of hose, then a T, so that it will branch out to 2 lines, one to the drain, the other to the inlet of the oil pump.

The two forward facing nipples are vent (farthest away in this pic) and return from oil filter (closest).

The pic with the colored arrows has these nipples marked incorrectly

Thank you very much for this information. The "T" is a crucial bit that I missing.

Does the T reduce down in size on the line that runs to the oil pump?
