My bagger randomply does it, since installing the pawl too.... I try to be more deliberate, otherwise, have been dealing with it for 30k..

I went with a Baker 6OD builders kit and yea the Pawl needs to be right on and set when in 3rd gear. Also you can't ***** the shift, it needs to be deliberate...

It's almost like the pawl doesn't push the drum far enough.Does that sound right?

Very possible. I do know when I set mine up it took a few adjustments. I still have 3rd gear downshift issues. So if the first initial down shift doesn't get it I bang it a little harder... They are temper mental. Go a little heavy on the upshift adjustment, bring it back to the left a fraction....

My 3-4 shift feels weird...like the clutch needs to be adjusted...or like something is "soft". Other shifts feel as normal as can be expected. Glad to know it's fairly "normal"

Did you make sure the fork rod is not bent? Also make sure it has some side to side play so it doesn't bind.

I would say it is either rounded dog teeth on the gears not staying locked. Usually, if it only happens on one particular shift that is the culprit. Shift drums and shifter pawl issues usually show up in all gears, not just at one position.
