That's tough - just as well you're able to deal with such pressure!

IIRC 883 bikes from your era had a very thick cylinder liner, which could be machined to take 1200 pistons, so what the castings say might be a bit of a fib! The dowel test 0maha described is a good indicator. Of course if it isn't a 1200 you can either bore it yourself, or better still get yourself a Hammer 1250/1275 big-bore kit.

I'm Ok with it being an 883 if that's what it turns out to actually be … I've had 2 other 883's in the past and enjoyed them … keep in mind I'm 67 and retired … I don't really care about getting somewhere fast, just care about getting there … not that much into "more power" argh, argh, argh …

You are a mere youngster - as well as my 883 I have a 1200 Firebolt for those more urgent rides!

My wife’s first bike was an 883 we bought used for her to learn on that was much than a stock 1200 I owned several years ago.
if you are questioning it power, it only implies it must have been worked on.
Does it make good power on all thre phases of its power band? Or sre you feeling it in say just from top end?
check your final drive too to see if both sprickets were replaced for a change in its delivery as well.
Increasing ower is not always something made at the motor.

I've read (but never tried) that you can use a thin wooden dowel to check. Motor at BDC, dowel down through the sparkplug hole with the end at the edge of the piston (up against the cylinder wall) will measure 5 7/8" to the top of the spark plug hole on a 1200 and 5 1/2" on an 883.
The base of mine does show 883 … right where you said to look … today I did the dowel method and it measured 5 1/2 inches … I'm confident it is an 883, I am very happy with that … Thanks for the help
