Well if your gonna do it with Scott, the 10.0:1 Wiseco setup with stage II heads and Woods W6 is very powerful and very reliable.... I'm sure there are others out there that can set that up but I know how well his performs... AND still gets 42 + mpg..... good luck... Oh and DO it once and be happy..... I had an issue with that and all it did was create more issues and more spending... Anyways don't think the OEM crank likes more than that... Trust me...

Everything is all boxed up and heading off to Scott.

We talked it over this morning, and it's pretty much the same plan as from a couple of years ago: Porting and valves in the heads, Woods W6, lifters and pushrods, compression bump. I sent the cylinders in for a hone, and he's also going to dress the gasket surface on the bottom. S&S rotary breather gear, and of course a full gasket kit. (He says Cometic.)

This is the fun part: Just ordered these bad boys.

Best case scenario is the left side bag more or less bolts right on, and the right side bag only requires minimal shaving of the battery box and the side cover to be made to fit.

Realistically, I won't be surprised if I end up having to re-fabricate just about everything about how these mount up. I'm particularly interested to see if the lids clear the grab rail. I figure there's not much to do here other than get them in hand, see how much trouble I'm in, and work through it.

I'm also interested to see if these are even worth keeping. They are just cheapo Chicom knockoffs I got for $200 on eBay. If they are total junk, I'll probably just send them back and scrap that part of the project. It's going to cost more than I spent on the bags to have my guy paint them, and I'm not into the whole lipstick on a pig thing. I would also check to see that the lids clear the tour-pak. That was a problem when adding a tour-pak to earlier bikes with cop bags, which open somewhat like the 2014 & up bags. Some people would put spacers under the tour-pak for clearance.

If your staying with the original swingarm, may as well beef it up and weld plates to the top and bottom of the drive side, where they normally break

I used an '07, which is supposedly beefed up even more than the earlier ones, although I haven't seen them side by side to compare. However I also used a later wheel and brake.

If you go latter wheel you have to use the crap bearings right ?

No, the 'crap' bearings go back a decade. I haven't had any problems with sealed bearings, except on my Buell, but that was many years ago and the replacements are still just fine. Some of this stuff gets repeated (like a lot of Harley myths) long after the event!

I personally know 4 people who had the sealed bearings go bad.
Two of them the bearings ate the hub out too.

That said the replacement bearings from All Balls is supposed to be a much better bearing than the stock one.
