1) bend the lock tab off the jack shaft bolt
2) Grab the pinion gear with a pair of channel lock pliers
3) Use appropriate wrench (I cant remember what size it is right now) to back out jack shaft bolt.
ps the bolt is a right hand thread

Well, that was way easier than I expected.
Mike, you were exactly right: Channelock on the gear, wrench on the bolt head. Boom. Came right off. Thanks!
Unless I run into something on the re-install, I don't think I need to remove the clutch or even the pinion gear itself. Now that the starter is out I'm going to go through and make sure all the contacts are good and put it back.

I think I've used up all my right answers!!!!!!!!!!

The GlidePro stuff just showed up.
The only initial observations I have is that it looks well made, and the front mount is quite a bit softer than the stock ones.
Still waiting on the new spherical bearings from CCE, so install will have to wait.
Also opened up the solenoid on the starter. The contacts don't look worn at all, but they were pretty dirty. Cleaned them up, and I think I'll leave it at that. Don't see any point in replacing them.

Turned the corner. As near as I can figure, this is as apart as she's going to get. It's all smooth sailing from here!
Swingarm looks fine. No cracks or anything. Just a ton of caked on oily dirt. I knew the bike was leaking oil, but digging in and seeing how filthy everything is really makes the point that it was time for gaskets.
