Winter Project : ElectraGlide Swingarm, Top End and Bags
Well, I'm off and running.
The Electra Glide was feeling a bit ignored over the last year, so time to give her some love. Got started with the tear down tonight. Didn't get too far, but it's something. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...90eac1a5e5.jpg The main plan is: - Swingarm stuff: CCE spherical bearings and the Glide-Pro system - Top end, cam, ignition, and gasket refresh on the motor - 2014+ style saddlebags and battery relocate Put the Sporty away today in my father in law's shed for the winter. That made me a little sad, but I'm happy digging back in to the EG! |
?why? Looks great to me. Keep us informed. Especially on the internals. :icon_beerchug:

They are making batteries so small now you could get rid of the Outboard one. I have been using this for two years now and very hapy with it- http://products.batterytender.com/Ba...V-2.5AH-150CCA Like you, my bike is under constant transformation -I am dropping the seat area 3 inches in the frame this winter. Make sure you rebuild your swingarm with new stuff and add a 3rd link. It will make it a happy trails ride ! |
Redoing the swingarm on mine made a world of difference. If time and pocket book permits some head work along with the cam is a great thing.
Well ok how far ya going with top end??? 2014 bags Ok Now ya really got me curious. WP |
The bags will fit right on.
I have 2015 SG bags, tank, fenders, fairing on mine Yes , OS valves and *deck the head with a cam will get ya going! Use the tulip valves that have shape to them **Deck the heads if you have not ever, you need at least 0.050 off |
Nice.... A cam will make a great difference.. Which one? I met up with Ruggs59 (dave) and rode his Road king that he upgraded with a EVL-3010 cam and screaming eagle heads and his CV carb, I gotta tell ya that thing really moved out...I was very impressed.... He later upgraded to an S&S E and by what he said it even perked it up some more... That combination had a very good low end with a smooth response and a great midrange right up to 5500 rpm.. Good luck...

I hate recommending cams because for the most part
we can only talk about what we have personally worked with. There may be better. So without recommending one, i truly think the Dave Mackie 530 is a pretty good one. I have learned one thing- Looking at all the cam specs most are really close on paper. (for streetable cams ) Make sure your seats do not stand proud from the casting anywhere. Make them flush. USE low tension piston HIPO rings! (probably the best mod you can do for the money) |
No experience with that DM 530 but I do know its not a bolt in cam with a very aggressive ramp on the intake valve.. I believe it requires head work. Also 10:1 compression or better with that 42* ivc...
