Too True but a "New Reg, Stater and Rotor kit plus tax" about $400. Not exactly chump change for someone laid off work a month ago.

Aces&8s, I know what you mean. CE products are nice, and they do fetch a premium. I only bought the stator when I needed to swap out. I got the best deal on CE stator from LowBrow. Check them out. Good luck.

Im sure Cycle Elec is good stuff but Im going back stock HD. for the same price. I have no doubt in my mind the new CE reg was the problem, that was enough for me. The stock system was still good after 22 yrs so I have no gripe with that.

Totally understand. My first replacement was stock H-D also. Don't know how long it would have lasted, but one of the stator bolts came loose, and stator was grounded and burnt. I still have the rotor and regulator that I bought from that kit. After that, I bought a cheapo Chinese stator for about $60, and it lasted for about 2 years. The insulation failed two months ago, so I bought the CE stator mainly because of the recommendations on this forum. CE has a 2 year warranty. It's quality built and made in America. Many aftermarket sellers get their charging systems from China producers, and I'm sure (not 100%) that Harley does the same.

If I have another suggestion and that is use some new loctite on those stator bolts. Don't trust the dried loctite that are on the bolts in the kit!

I am amazed at the voltage difference between the Cycle Electric stator and regulator voltage and stock. I now have a steady 14.1 volts were the stock system put out 13.8. AND I have more amperage available.

S&S uses a set screw to retain the stator plug, back it out and retest, just in case it was over tightened and pierced the stator plug.

You know now that you mention it mine was the same. I just have the rotor and stator from cycle electric and still use the OEM regulator and it always 14.1-14.2...

I swear the CE stator is a double wound Stator....

I backed out the set screw but no difference. Screw was barely snug.

My stock 97 dyna was making 13.8 at idle and 14.7 volts at 2500 rpm. which is where it should be.
