Transmission rebuild
I'm getting ready to rebuild the transmission on my 98 dyna, Got a Baker rebuild kit, N1 shift drum, high torque inner primary bearing, fine tooth primary chain adjuster, anti over shift pawl, and the heavy duty throw out bearing kit. I got most of my tools together. This is my first transmission rebuild, any tips or advice? Doesn't look like a big deal, fairly straight foward according to the FSM. Thanks guys.

Several things, A good full snap ring pliers set. Make sure your ready to put the trap-door
bearings on. Not good for them to pull off and reinstall. And MOST important, find a way,
or have someone PRESS the bearings in. Don't hammer them in. Especially the big one,
the case is plenty thin in that area. Good Luck.

Update...Got everything taken apart, it all came down fairly easy. Went to remove the main drive gear and discovered that Baker sent the wrong tool set, which I rented, but after a quick phone call they were good enough to send me they correct tool at no charge. Took the gear set apart today and replaced the trap door bearings, needle bearings, clips and spacers. No problem. I had to order a inner primary bearing remover / installer from Georges Garage, that thing is in there tight. George has some real quality tools. One thing I got to pick you guys brain about....how do you remove and install the countershaft bearing? Thats the needle bearing thats closed on one end. The baker kit came with one, might as well change it too....More later. Thanks guys.
