problem with performance machine calipers help

PM advised me that they're not for spoked wheels when I called before ordering. I told them they were for mags and they told me they would be perfect. They're obviously not. I might have 1/32". I called them today and they were no help at all and said they're not original wheels. The fxr/sporty were all 3/4 timken wheels and the lowers are pre 2000. I don't think shimming will get me where i need to be. Does anyone know if either of their 4 piston versions are any narrower? They make the direct bolt on and the kit w brackets. PM literally were no help at all and said the acceptable clearance was up to me and that it was "my life." They added that they don't have older bikes to tes their products on. If that's the case I don't know why they're selling products that are supposed to be compatible. |
Is it tight on both sides? If not, could you nudge the whole wheel over with different axle spacers?
|
Tight on both sides. I could shim the rotors out a fraction but I can only move the calipers out so far by not running any caliper shims. It might give me a total of 1/16" but I don't think that's an acceptable clearance. It's crazy how unhelpful they were with this |
Where are the disks sitting relative to the calipers? Are they centered? Any chance of putting shims behind the disks?
|
I thought about that yes but the caliper itself can only be moved out to the point it mounts directly to the lower. The pic I posted was a medium shim between caliper and lower. If I run no shim at all, I could shim the rotors to center them but I still don't think it'll give me enough. Does anyone have any experience with the 4 pistons?? |
I have 4-piston single caliper on my 97 WG with an aftermarket 21" x 3.5" wheel. Does this help? Do you need pictures?
|
I think yours being a wide glide front end makes for allot of extra room. Is it the direct bolt on or does it have the extra bracket? |
IIRC, it has the extra bracket like yours. I don't have a current pic on my phone.

So, from what I'm reading, both you and PM are in agreement. There is no contact with the wheel, so what's the problem?
Unless your wheel spins sideways, they'll never touch. |

Unless your wheel spins sideways, they'll never touch. Mixing parts can be a PITA, my wife is small and I built her a custom bike and had fits trying to get parts to fit and work correctly. My experience was hit and miss as far as finding components that work well together the first time. Keep looking and you'll find the right stuff. |
