There are differences in year models concerning too many things to list (mostly internal), however none of them would be any issue at all, so long as you don't go from top breather to bottom breather or vice-versa. I don't think there's enough room to use the front mounted oil filter so you'd have to change/modify the oil pump inlet/outlet fittings to connect the FLH oil lines and fit the bracket between the heads to accommodate the top link adjuster. Otherwise, everything will bolt right in.

Thanks for the replies.
I did a compression test and the front cylinder is at 80psi and the rear is at 100psi. So the top end definitely needs attention, the bike has 100k miles on it so I didn't think it would be a wise idea to do any top end work without touching the bottom end. I have not done a leak down test because I have the primary off and don't have a good way to hold the engine from turning.

What is considered a refresh? Pistons, rings, valve seals, valve job?
The previous owner replaced the rings because he was in there doing head gaskets anyway but didn't hone the cylinders. He seemed to think the rear head gasket had blown again, said he could feel it pushing air out while it was running.
