Default Irish biker looking for ECM 1998 flhtci in trouble

Hi bought a Harley 1998 8000 miles on it but was running on one cylinder and I have changed everything on it and no joy. I got a second hand ecm and she ran but kept stopping the lad I got the ecm from said that’s why he changed it. At least I heard it ruining for the only time in a year. Just wondering if anyone might know how to solve this. I have all ready spent a lot trying.

Hello my Irish Brother. Unfortunately your options are limited and no cheap easy way out. Maybe you can find one on Ebay? Or you can switch to a carburetor setup. S&S made a replacement but they are discontinued and very difficult to find.
I will also add make sure you check your main 50 amp breaker. It can be corroded inside or have corroded connections that can cause similar problems. Check your relay that supplies power to the ECM too. I would replace both just to be sure and check all connections if you have not already done so. Good Luck.

When the ecm went on my 1998 Ultra Classic, I switched over to a carb and ultima ignition.

What ultima did you use. I have a new s and s carb would work with that work with it. I get confused with talk if VOS and setting timings

I think you need to do more investigating to find out what else the problem might be before you condemn the ECM. Do you have spark at the rear cylinder? what did you change out? We deal with a lot of fuel injected EVO issues here and bad ECM is not all that common. It might be something simple and cheap. Give us some more information.

it has never had spark on rear cylinder since I bought it, the last lad said it needed a new coil witch he bought and delivered to me. I put on and no change, I replaced leads, plugs, crank and cam sensor, I got auto electrician to give once over and no faults with wires. I bought a second hand ECM on E bay and put on and fired up, but when I ride it engine light comes on and stops, it starts again straight away and cuts out again. I e mailed the lad I got ECU from and he said it use to do something similar and that's why he changed it, I was glad to just hear it start. I have spent over 500 on it so far. I have a brand new S&S carb at home but I am not sure about being able to install an new ignition myself. feels like I am digging a big hole for myself. The bike had one owner 1998 it has only 8000 miles and its like new, the ECM looks like new

Bro. Replace that main breaker and check the things I said before you spend a lot of money. They are cheap. There is also a lot involved in switching to a carb. Nice looking bike!
