There's a Shovelhead section here. and then there's always www.shovelhead.us for everything you'd ever want to know.

If that's a Bendix carb, I'd replace it before it catches the bike on fire. Otherwise, top ends every 25K miles, bottom ends every other top end, replace all the stuff that falls off, see if cycle electrics has a kit when that stator blows. Oh, and I'd suggest putting a real oil filter on it, in the return line like an Evo has.

I've been around long enough to have bought a new one and owned it for many years! Memory is fading, but I've had the Harley bug for over 40 years thanks to that bike.....

Thanks for replies, been looking on shovelhead side, but have some knowledge of people on EVO side, thought I'd see what they had yo say.
Carb is a shorty E, and waiting on manual so I do not ask to many questions, that should have been obvious. Looked at oil line routing, all going where it should. Need to check oil flow, and get lights on dash working. May have gotten into something I shouldn't have, but should be a learning experience.

If you are planning to make it or thinking about making it please say so and tell me what flavor you want.
If you have no intention on attending please don't post here so that it's easier for me to count the ones showing up.

OK, I know it was only 2 days ago that I posted my road was still water-covered and that I was doubting I'd be able to make this trip.
But to my complete shock, they somehow got my road dried out enough to be driveable. I can get to my house and I should get power restored tomorrow. Then I'll be back in business.
All I have to do now is get my bike ready for the season and do a couple long rides to see if I can maybe hack a trip to Texas and back.
But as of now, I'm in!
